In these squares are the scenes that remind us of the living death that is celebrated by many Mexicans on
·the 31st of October to remember those who died in accidents or have not relatives (lonely souls)
·the 1st of November is dedicated to the small children (little angels)
·the 2nd of November is to remember the adults
These strings of squares are used to decorate the table and the room where the offering to our ancestors is placed during these days, where we invite their memory and expect they will pass pleasant times with family and friends again. These are celebrations of reflection, joy and color.
On these days our dearly departed and our loved ones join together in good fellowship, along with the food, drink, and music they enjoyed when with us. There is also food that is particular to the celebration, such as pumpkin cooked in brown sugar, almond sweets, a special recipe of bread made into shapes, etc.
Besides the cut paper or plastic, they decorate with marigolds, candles, and any item the honored person enjoyed.
