Mariana Murguía-Ferrer

Professor of Anthropology for over 25 years at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mariana has researched the music and musicians of the Southwest U.S. since 1988. She is well known as a presenter at conferences throughout the U.S. as well as Mexico. She is the editor in chief of all CANTOS publications and the author of most of this text. She is also the designer of Adornos Mariana. Images from the Hilos de Cuadros are the majority of the illustrations in this volume.
Daniel P. Gómez
Fort Worth, Texas
Dan has played Mexican, Mexican American and many other styles of music from his early years in South Texas to his travels about the world as an officer for the U.S. Air Force. Lt. Colonel Gómez retired a few years ago to pursue his doctorate in education. He completed his Ph.D. in 1993 at Texas Tech University. His first degree was music. He is a much sought after presenter on drug education, minority relations and cross cultural interactions and a proficient mariachi (requinto, guitarra, acordeón de botones). Dan's original songs and recordings are his interpretations of the lessons Mariana teaches.
Roy E. Howard
Gallup, New Mexico
Roy is Associate Professor of Bilingual Education at Western New Mexico University. In addition to a Ph.D. in bilingual education, he also has a masters in music education. Many of his national publications and presentations are on using music to teach classroom subjects. He has performed professionally for a number of years, particularly in styles such as conjunto, mariachi, trio, tejano. Dr. Howard is the performer and recording engineer for the music on the tapes and CDs, and publishes the web site and the books.
