OFRENDAS

Roy Howard © 1991, Cantos Para Todos

De Europa trajeron costumbres antiguos:
Honor y respeto a quien se murió.
Hallaron en américa a pueblos y tribus
con costumbres antiguas
de alabanza y honor.
Calavera, campo santo,
esqueleto de la muerte
Maíz, pan y dulce, ofrendas de vida.
Calavera, campo santo,
esqueleto de la muerte;
Maíz, pan y dulce, ofrendas de vida.

Las velas y flores indican el camino
El arco invita al alma a entrar.
El agua satisfacerá al sediento
La sal purifica, incienso invita.
Calavera, campo santo,
esqueleto de la muerte
Maíz, pan y dulce, ofrendas de vida.
Calavera, campo santo,
esqueleto de la muerte;
Maíz, pan y dulce, ofrendas de vida.

Europeans brought customs
learned from their ancestors:
Respect and remembrance
of those who have died.
They found in America
the towns full of people
With customs so ancient
of honor and praise.
Cemetery, the skull
and the skeleton of death;
The bread, corn and candy
are offerings of life.
Cemetery, the skull
and the skeleton of death;
The bread, corn and candy
are offerings of life.
The ancestors follow
the candles and flowers
The archway invites them
to come in and feast.
The water is to quench
the thirst of the traveler.
The salt purifies
and the incense invites.
Cemetery, the skull
and the skeleton of death;
The bread, corn and candy
are offerings of life.
Cemetery, the skull
and the skeleton of death;
The bread, corn and candy
are offerings of life.
