Dalmation Toadflax

Scrophulariaceae (Figwort Family)
Class A Weed

Dalmatian Toadflax is a noxious weed. It comes from Europe which is across the ocean. The natural enemies of the toadflax did not come with it so there is no natural way of keeping it under control. It is a creeping perennial that grows up to three feet tall and reproduces by seed and aggressive underground rootstocks. This plant has a spur that injures livestock. The flower is very pretty—yellow with an orange, bearded throat—similar in shape to a snapdragon. Because it is so pretty, children and grandmas are tricked into helping it spread. When it grows it takes over the homes of edible plants. (Edible is something good or not harmful to eat.) If we see these flowers we need to put on gloves, pull up the whole plant and place it in a garbage sack .
