Sunflowers can be destroyed by cultivation.

Common sunflowers are annuals growing from one to ten feet tall. Sunflowers have strong, erect stems with leaves growing in an alternate fashion.

The leaves are rough with flowers blooming in clusters. These weeds have yellow to orange-yellow ray flowers, and brown to dark reddish-brown disk flowers. Sunflowers are commonly seen on roadsides, along fences, pastures, fields and waste areas. Disk flowers are shaped like a dish or bowl.
