Where does the name of the group come from?
Aire is French for a surface, site, tarmac or range.
Aire is a feminine noun, so the feminine form of the adjective "belle" is required instead of the masculine "bel" which means "beau" or beautiful, handsome, fine, nice, lovely (however, before a noun that starts with a vowel, use "bel").
So, to make it proper French Grammar, you must use Bel Aire, But we want to name a Kansas singing group, and the name is contrived. Aires is contrived as the imaginary English plural for Aire. Belle is used to distinguish from the town or Ward, Bel Aire. So it is a made up name based on Bel Aire Ward, but is not Bel Aire Ward.
Therefore "The Belle Aires" implies that these handsome singers are from a lovely place (and don't speak French).
